Black Canadian Scholarship Fund | Ottawa
The Black Canadian Scholarship Fund (BCSF) was established in 1996 by Dr. Horace Alexis and members of the Ottawa community to provide opportunities and encourage academic excellence for qualified black students in the chosen fields of study. These opportunities are made available through the support and generous donations of many, through scholarships or bursaries. BCSF funds are held with the Ottawa Community Foundation. Myrtha Lapierre Scholarship Fund / University of Ottawa
In 2008, retired nursing professor Myrtha Lapierre launched a fundraising effort to establish the bursary at the University of Ottawa in her name to provide financial support to foreign-trained nurses and doctors. The bursary was created
to help nurses upgrade to a bachelor’s degree in nursing so they qualify to write the licensing exam and doctors obtain a certificate in education, which would allow them to teach while preparing for their licensing exams.
Persons wishing to contribute to this bursary can send a cheque of $25 minimum in order to obtain an income tax receipt. Cheque to be made out to:

Michaëlle Jean Foundation Bursaries
Launched in 2013, as a partnership between the Michaëlle Jean Foundation and TD
Bank Group, the TD Michaëlle Jean Bursaries provide up to $10,000 to youth
seeking training or mentorship to help them use the arts to better their
communities. Over a one-year period, the recipients will work on innovative
arts-based projects designed to better the lives of underprivileged youth and
improve the quality of life in their communities, under the supervision of a
mentor. The call for applications for bursaries is now open.
