Annual Dapo Fun Day honours fallen peacemaker...
Youth violence is on the rise, the devastation and loss of life that it causes is overwhelming. The newly formed Dapo Agoro Foundation for Peace (DAF) was created in 2006 in memory of Dapo Agoro. In June 2002 his life was cut short by a youth wielding a knife. The family chose to use this tragedy and reach out with a message of non-violence to the community. The Foundation for Peace serves as a non-profit organization aimed at bringing awareness to the increasing prevalence of knives among today’s youth and to promote non-violent conflict resolution.
On Saturday August 17th 2013 The Dapo Agoro Foundation for Peace will be hosting the 11th Annual Dapo Fun Day. The day includes a BBQ in the park, live D.J., Guest Speakers, Open Mic (Vocalists, Rappers, Poets, and Bands), sporting events (3-on-3 basketball / 4-on-4 soccer) and entertainment for the kids. The Fun Day has activities for everyone.
Date: Saturday August 17th 2013
Time: 12noon – 6pm
Venue: Blackburn Community Centre -190 Glen Park Drive
The Fun Day has traditionally been an event that allows us to remember our angel and fallen hero Dapo, but we want to take it a step further. His memory will allow the Foundation to reach out to the community and hopefully make a change for the better. Currently the Foundation provides an award for a graduating student from Lester B. Pearson Catholic High School and Gloucester High school. It is a small start to honoring those who embodied Dapo’s spirit of non-violence and friendship. We hope to see everyone there!!
We would like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to local businesses and business owners to come out and enjoy Dapo Fun Day. We are also looking for any assistance to help make this event a success. In the past we have received donations in the form of provisions for the BBQ, prizes that can be awarded to the sports event winners and/or monetary donations. Every little bit helps and is greatly appreciated.
We thank you in advance for your most generous support.
Sincerely,
Shola Agoro
